I have been thinking about what you son told you, something like that "you are having fun doing nothing unplugged from the world".

Anyway, my point is that back road exploration enable one to build a truck to take you and your family (and come back) reliable, give you a bit more comfort than a tent in the ground, a lab/project in constant improvement mode, and a place for you to put your money in good use for many years. While your kids come along ( ) they learn quite a bit about the environment, bio diversity, and other cultures. And learn about some trial and errors too seeing the project worked and the ones that need improvement.

I agree. The 'inspiration' for my overlanding passion stems from my childhood. I have fond memories of my father loading us up in the car and going to Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion...etc. In fact I talked to my father tonight and told him of my 5 year plan of hitting as many national parks as I can with my son...I hope that these trips will inspire him someday to 'Get out and Discover'. Perhaps I'm going to have to buy a comfy cot and have my father sleep in the screenhouse!...

There are not too many things that make you feel like you are 18 again...This does it for me! I have found my fountain of youth...

hope for you that a potential thief will not oversee this "tiny" protection system - that would be the benefit of the other locking systems you showed above, they are immediately visible.

I am hoping that the thieves would give up after seeing all the effort that would be required...Granted the visibility would be part of the equation, however, I would hope that this lock would cause such a commotion while attempting to drive it off, they would flee the scene...Kinda sad that we have to 'hope for the best and plan for the worst'...
