    Default Backyard Ramblings

I thought I had posted this May day trip around my "backyard" on this forum, but checking it out found I hadn't. Thus here is a "reprint" of a post on another forum.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
I was drinking coffee this morning doing what I do best - prowl ghost towns and the wide open spaces of Nevada. A Thermos of hot coffee, a mug of hot coffee and the wheel in my hands and all four wheels pulling under me perk me up oh so fine!

This morning my wife and I - along with our little white dog Otis - decided to make a nice little run south, then over the canyon paths across the East Range. Then we crossed Buena Vista Valley and up into the Humboldt Range to the semi-ghost of Unionville. Then north to Mill City on I-80, but we went under the Interstate, alongside for a couple miles, then up Dun Glenn Canyon to the true ghost town of Dun Glen in the northern East Range. Then over Dun Glen Summit, down the switchbacks into Grass Valley and home again. All the while drinking coffee.

Now, I just finished a fine BBQ'ed steak, and now starting on my first beer!
A full trip account at a later date.

A fine spring morning in Unionville.

    One of Unionville's older places.

Unionville dates back to the Civil War days. This is the grave of an infant.

My wife (holding Otis because of the thick foxtails in the cemetery that could get down into his floppy ears and cause real issues) enjoys walking among the old graves in the Unionville Cemetery. Unionville hides back in the canyon in the middle distance.

Dun Glen is a real ghost town. One of the stone dwellings found amid the canyon setting.

Dun Glen looking down canyon and at the Humboldt Range.

The drop off the east side of the East Range is dramatic. Looking at Winnemucca in the distance.

Continuing down off the East Range. My house is now close.

Ah! Only a few minutes to a beer and BBQ!
