    Default Q89 Chrome Air Compressor

I am in the need for a new compressor since my little compressor just went out, I had it for more then a year and for 49.00 dollars I got my moneys worth, so I am looking into the Q89 which seems to be the same double air compressor I had before also it seems to be faster to fill tires, I was about to purchase the new ARB compressor but it seems like it is more for lockers then to fill tires, it is very slow!
So for 149.99 delivered should I give this compressor a try!

That can be a hard call. Be interesting to read others thoughts on this subject.

I ran an ARB compress for almost ten years and it aired up alot of tires, but had to rebuild it a few times. Some people seem to get years out of the $50 compressors, other's get 4-5 air-ups.

I like the idea of 100% duty cycle, but I know someday even that will fail on the trail.

I have only heard good things about the Extremeaire severe duty compressors but they are $400. At $200, I'd consider getting the 12V Puma found on eBay. Both these compressors can also run some air tools.

I thought the Q89 was faster then both of these compressors?

The Puma seems a possibility however I am planning on a possible permanent installation under the hood and the Puma at 15" high seems a liittle tall!

before I bought my little $50 Costco compressor...I read an older compressor comparison article in one of the off road mags...they compared ARB, Viar, etc and the little $50 did outshine..(outpuff?) the higher priced models...seems like fo the $200 - $400 of the other ones, you could have 3 or 4 of the MaxxAirs???

The manufacturers output spec for the Q89 is 72 liters per minute. It doesn't say at what pressure but it is definitely not 150psi but more likely free flow or 0 psi. If you have more comprehensive data, please post up. 72 lpm is equivalent to 2.54cfm. The Extremeaire Severe duty is rated at 4 CFM at free flow rate and 1.3 CFM at 100 psi.

Regarding the Puma, keep in mind it can be disassembled and you can put the tank somewhere else like along the frame rail.

I just bought an Oasis HP1000. It is quite a hefty compressor at 45lbs. It is rated at 14 CFM @ 0 psi to 8 CFM at 100 psi. Can't wait to wire it up. It's an overkill but I got a good deal on it.

I’d like to see one of those in action someday.

Not sure what I’d do if I got a good deal on one of those. Since I’d be torn between ‘that’s way overkill for my needs’ with ‘OK, I’ll buy that’!

I think I could handle the size and weight but the 200 amp draw (I know that’s at max PSI) might kill my system even at 50+/- PSI.

Be sure to let use know your feeling about the pros & cons, once you have used it for a while.

eurorom, get one of these. Heck if we can’t help you decide between your current choices, we can still help ya spend some $$

I bought the HP1000 mainly because I can switch it between vehicles. One truck being 24volts. At that voltage, the output is 14cfm at 100 psi! I like the fact that it is oil lubed and turns at a low rpm. I expect it to be relatively quiet. The higher current draw also concerns me. It requires a bit more care to wire up, like a winch but should also be able to air up my tires in record time.

I am interested in the record time, would that mean you can just run your engine for a few minutes ( like winching ) while you air up and then you are done?

Be careful mountint the "Q" compressors under the hood, they are not weather sealed, and if wet while turning on...ouch...

I also imagine that the elements would also help them die sooner.

My lil red Q has a lot of miles on it, and I expect that it will die soon, so I'll be replacing with that 12v Puma.
