    Thumbs up 2m radio 65 w - IC-2200H

    Hello,

Remember I got a 2m radio, the Icom IC-2200H, three weeks back or so?
I was able to test it for 10 days on 4WD applications.

It receives and transmit better than my previous setup. Easy to program, easy to use.

BUT, it gets hot. I mean that you can't touch the radio chassis after some long talks. It is probably OK since the whole radio is a heat sink.

I am planning to put a PC kind fan with speed control on the top of it. The ones that run faster once the sensor sees that the target is hot. I am planning to work on a mod the next weeks and let me you know.

So much to see, so little time. Try using your 4WD to see and do more.

    sweet!

I'd like to see pic's of your fan setup when it's done. My Yaesu is similar in construction to your I-Com, but I haven't had it transmitting on high long enough for it to get hot.

I need to stop by one of my favorite stores, Frys' electronics to pick a fan model that has heat based speed control. Then I need to figure out how to leave it on only when the radio is in operation.

I hear lots of talk about 2 meter radios..........

But not much about which antenna to use.

What is a good overall value antenna to use with a 2 Meter Radio......?

Will the positioning of this 2 Meter Antenna interfear with the "SWR" (did somebody say SWR>?!!! ) on my CB Antenna?

I keep threatening to just order a 2 Meter.....and deal with the test later. At least I could hear you guys! But I would like to order the right antenna at the same time.

I don't know why I want this radio anyway..........I don't think anyone here really goes on any trips!!!!!!!!..........hehe

    OH YA!.........

And remind me Not to get an ICOM!!!!!! ......hehe .......sorry Jack! (just teasing!!!)

    Mark,

We talked a bit on Larsen vs. diamond.
One setup will cost you $40 the other $90.
Because they are in different frequencies / resonance you should not see a problem. If you do, then adjust the antenna to get back to your SWR wishes.

Take a look on some pictures I posted on the The white TLC thread. I hope that helps.

SWR, better check the price before you get excited. This is the Mercedes of the HAM RADIO. All bands in one radio.

Good source for HAM gear, you have been there already. HRO ...
