Thread: Pre Baja 05 Modifications

  1. #1

    Default Pre Baja 05 Modifications

I've gotten into the habit of doingthe modifications to Casa Azul at about this time every year so that they can be enjoyed on our annual migration down to Central Baja.

Now that I own property down there, we have been usingthe "Rancho"as our base camp and usingmeans other than Casa Azul to go explore (boat, boot, kayak, OP trucks).

Because of this we are staying in one place longer and taping our stores (running out of sh*t). So over that last few years I've done several modifications geared toward more beer, food, & water storage. That was all good and well until last trip when we ran out of propane!

One of the first modification of Casa Azul I did ten years ago was to mount a stationary propane tank under the box like on any typical motorhome. It did great until
last January when it ran out of propane 8 days before we were due to return to ourpinche normal lives in Esatados Unidos...
Then the epic swell came in, and there was no way in HELL that I was going ANYWHERE...other than out in the water until my arms fell off.

OK! THAN WE'LL DRINK WARM BEER!!!!

After the swell died, Sethzilla and I drove down to Gurrero Negro with a spare propane tank that Jorge Mora had (The owners of the rancho (20,500 acres that my pinche 14 acres is in), filled it up and then went to the hardware store and bought a regulator and some hose to fit it to the truck asa "quick fix"axulliary. Needless to say, the "propane issue" is on the top of this years list

    So, this yearsfirst modifications are:
    • Remove the Diesel Generator & associated components it the electrical system and fill space with another H20 tank
    • Remove the fixed propane tank & replace with removeable tanks.

Hereare some first pictures of themodifications...

    More copy& pictures to follow!

Those are some BIG propane tanks!!!

I completely understand your reasoning with the swell and warm beer.

Also, can you remind me when you'll be down there. I might be able to 'stop by.'

    The bad news was...

My girlfriend had some family issues that made us have to delay our annual migration to Baja for a couple of weeks.

    The good news was...

I was able to devote a HUGE amount of time to work on Casa Azul before we split!

Here is a list of what I achieved (from the back to the front):

Back up / outdoor camping lights

    Back up camera

    LED vehicle lights

    New rear bumper

Another H20 tank (42 Gallons) with monitering

a portable aluminum propane tank (in quick release frame)

    Removed diesel generator

added 2 Jerry Cans (diesel 10G)

    re-built my h2o pump

plumbed in a 2nd h2o pump (i now have a redundent water system)

    5 micron h20 filtration

compressable / Lockable side covers (made from sand ladders)

    removed awning

And a bunch of other little things.

My neighbor down the street. Good think he dosen't read this blog...he'd kick my ass!!!

Actually I ordered these tanks (1 for Casa & 1 for libby) custom configured to take vapor (stove, reefer, etc), rather than liquid (motor fuel).

Kind of funny... I quickly skimmed this tread and the first thing I saw was this part:

    Joaquin Suave said...

Then I saw the thumbnail picture of the two cylinders... And thought that this was about installing beer kegs into a rig.

I was disappointed to learn it was propane. Thanks for letting me down
