This was the debut run for a small group of 4wd enthusiasts in SW Wyoming. A friend and I have expanded our 4wd tandem to include a few other friends and family.Today, we headed outto the Red Desert to see the Boar's Tusk. The Boar's Tusk, a lamproite found in the Leucite hills of SW WY, isa volcanic plug set among some of the largest sand dunes in North America, the Killpecker Sand Dunes. It was really cold and cloudy with some strong winds that had the dunes practically sandblasting us where we stood.
I was in my old Yota pick up, with my buddy Josh, and his FJ62. New to the group and their vehicles were Chuck, with a TJ hebought 2 months ago, Ty and his Wagoneer that hebought last month, and Derrick in his Blazer that he bought last week. Because we were new as a group, with some untested stock vehicles, we took it easy and stuck to tame trails today. Highlites included finding a natural water spring, sand dunes on mountain tops and a heck of a lightning show to chase us home.
Our idea is toexpand on our knowledge of the Wyoming back country and back roads, while learning more about the history of the area and the explorers who first crossed it. Josh and I have been working to develop a website, which we're hoping to launch in late May. More pics will be posted on the website -
