Hi

If you ever go hiking, camping, off-roading or biking in the California Deserts, read this book first.

I read it and it fascinated me.

The California Deserts
An Ecological Rediscovery
by Bruce M. Pavlik

at http://www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/10857.php

This book will give you an inside view of the desert, about its people, the plants, the animals and the history. It is easy to read, has many illustrations and is based on scientific facts.

Greetings from Switzerland

Hey Steve, funny you got a CA book tip from someone that lives that far from our backyard.
Who knew?!

Yes, I really like that, other side of the planet and we are getting help for our hobby. :ok-kewl:

BUT not only do we need to THANK the people who share info, we need to THANK the people who set-up and keep this site going.

I have the book in my hands today; it was waiting when I got back form a weekend in the Salton Sink.

I’d say I’m the very 1st person to check-out this copy of the book from the LA Co Library. Since it’s publication is 2008 this book would NOT have stayed off my radar for long.

I spent last Saturday on a field trip with the Anza Borrego Institute. The trip leader has lived in the area since 1973, and knows a lot about the area. I did learn a lot from him, and a few items where way neat. But I was able to show him a little tip-bit of the area he had not heard of. Its cool we all can share.

I’ve only leafed thru the book, but some very good pictures and maps. Now to spend some time reading, but I’m 99% sure I will be buying my own copy of this book.

Hi

To stop you wondering :

I visit the Anza Borrego regularely with my son who lives in San Diego.

I always take a lot of pictures with my digital camera. The author of this book, Bruce Pavlik, asked me whether he could use 2 of my pictures in his new book, naturally I said yes and gave them for free.

Therefore I got my hands early on this book and was able to recommend it to anybody interested in the desert.

Greetings from freezing Switzerland , 14° Fahrenheit last night in our place, which is not up in the mountains !

Hi Goletto,

Make sure to get in touch next time you are around.

Ouch, cold huh!? We had the AC running in the car a couple days back.

Take care.
