View Full Version : Trails in Bodie or Bridgeport
I am new to this forum and am hoping to get some info on trails around Bodie or in Bridgeport. I only have a stock 86 4runner w/AT tires. However; I do have a winch. I am looking more just to get away from the crowds opposed to a rock crawler area. :sign_thankyou:

You should check out Roger and Cecile's site, www.explorehistoricalif.com (http://www.explorehistoricalif.com)
Excellent introductory trails guided by great people. You need a CB and a rundown of the vehicle checklist for required equipment/accessories. Stock vehicles have been just fine on their runs. My 99 4Runner used to be stock with AT tires. Don't worry, after you catch the bug, yours won't be stock for very long either.
By the way, Bodie is one of the favorite places of Roger & Cecile, as you will find on their site. Great reading, great trips, and good times! Been on a number of them myself.

Bobb,
Welcome to the 4WDTrisp forum.
Glad you found us.
I am sure there some people that know the area you are looking for well. Lets see what they say.
As Mitch said, Roger and Cecile really like and know a lot about Bodie.
With some search on the Forum you should find some info too. But, I am sure you will like the interaction that the Forum provides.
Take care.

From Bridgeport you can hit the Chamung Mine, Masonic mining district, Bodie & thru to Aurora mining district. Could spend weeks exploring that corner, now mostly BLM or National Forest Service lands.

Al, don't forget the Datsun Mine...somebody kept notes from that trip and can find it again, I'm sure!
In August we hit Chemung, Masonic, The Geiger Grade to Bodie, then Aurora the following day from the Nevada site. The trip report, complete with pictures is on my September website beneath the story about the Friends of Bodie parade.
Also another good spot on the western side of highway 395 near Bridgeport is Dunderburg.
The first snowfall is due to arrive this weekend for these areas...so be cautious and keep an eye on the weather reports.
If you check out my website - go to my photo gallery also, there should be other pics in the area for our Bodie and Golden Leaves & Golden Trail trips in years past. Also look through my story archives for September and October of the past years and there's got to be more pics from adventures in that area.

Cecile,
At first I was wondering what you meant about the Datsun mine & then I remembered. Wasn't that more over by Aurora?

Hahahahahahahaha. Al! How could you ever forget the Datsun Mine! It was somewhere out there - and yes, I think you are right it was closer to Aurora. I don't even think we ever figured out whether we were in California or Nevada did we? Boy that was a fun trip!
