I am not sure it would eat much. We will see.
I am assuming the code points to another server that then feeds the information.

Yes, it must be calling that server every time the a page with the image is refreshed.

I'm not sure I'll keep. It was more intended as a test and to show that something like this can be done. The URL is not accepted for the avatar.
