On the road up from Ludlow Ca that follows the old Tidewater and Tonopah railroad line, where the road meets the current main railroad line coming out of Afton Canyon on my GPS and google maps there is an indication of some streets which looks like the layout for a small town, however there is no evidence of any town ever there.

Can anyone give me some information on what this was all about, someone's plans that never happened or was it a small town that has disappeared and still shows up on the maps.

I attached the google map of the area.

Thanks for any help,

That's quite a ways north of Ludlow, I tried doing a search for all the street names, but nothing came up.

I would say this is closer to Zzyzx, CA than Ludlow. And there is a Railroad Siding there, and they usually name those sidings, I'd look for a sign at the location where the siding begins. With that, we have more to search with.

Thats the railroad siding of Crucero. The roads that show up on the map don't appear on the satelite view or USGS topo map of the area. I suspect they are probably on RR land and the RR recorded the streets and such with the San Bernardino County Assessor anticipating some sort of RR development at that site.

There does look like there may have been a siding there at one time for loading and unloading RR cars. There are a few big pieces of concrete right next to the RR line that may have been for something. It is right where the old RR coming up from Ludlow meets the existing RR line.

Thanks for the info. It will help me answer the questions I get from some of the drivers with navagation systems on the next trip.

You might try calling someone at the San Bernardino County planners office and see what those roads were reserved for or if they are historical.

Can anyone give me some information .......

I’ll tell you what I have but if you would please do me a favor? Have your friends not spin around on the dry lakes. I noticed that in one of your posted pictures from your last trip and people I know that own property in that area rather visitors didn’t do that. THANKS.

Back to your question. :yeah:

That was a T&T RR town. I’m not real good with names.

The T&T crossed the Union Pacific. The T& T was originally set to terminate at the UP, but the UP owners didn’t like the T&T name, hence the T&T had to run down to the Southern Pacific.

Since the T&T crossed the UP right-of-way, the T&T was 100% responsible to keep the UP running infringed.

Hence the T&T township to support the all the T&T personnel in that area, to handle this endeavor.

There still a few things at that site, like what used to be an igloo, but it was in sad shape last time I was at the igloo.

Also there is a grave at Crucero, and other remnants form it’s RR days.

Since you been that way a few times lately, have you seen John at Mesquite Dry lake? Is he going to be out there this weekend? Is the nudist camp progressing? Did you find and good petroglyph’s? I’ve limbed around that silly hill a few times but never found any good rock art.

Have a fun trip. :ok-kewl:
