I am now in the planning stages to go to Batopilas in search of the Lost Cathedral Satevo, I will be depating on August, however at this point i do not know which weekend this would take place, if it turns out that I get the last weekend of the month off, then i will cancell since i am planning on a longer trip (1 week in Sepetember!)
Tejaban is in my list to explore, just out of Creel, La Bufa halfways thru to Batopilas; assuming I have the time, I will consider crossing over from Batopilas to Rio Urique a very remote area but should be not too difficult!
Will keep you guys posted!

You gotta wait and do this NEXT August! Isn't that what you meant by "August" anyways??
Those look like the kind of roads I'm used to in B.C. anyways.

2008!! That gives me time to get in shape for walking all over the place.
I'm flying back to Guatemala on Tuesday and I'll need to get ready for school to start on August 20.

I was told I need to be very carefull with the trail that leads into Batopilas, that it could be very dangerous!
Any information anybody care to share?

The road is spectacular and you should do it.
I would not call it dangerous. The tourist ride down on chairs bolted to the top of Suburbans.

You may want to read post #35 of this thread http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=131037&page=2 It sounds like this guy is local and he's strongly recommending AGAINST a solo trip at this time of year.

Well this trip is cancelled, after some good reliable information and for security reasons, and this is a first one for me!
We will not do Batopilas next month, so now i have to find something else or another trip to do!
So, may be El Golfo to puerto penasco if there is no rain next week!

If August is deemed to be a poor choice I could also do it early in June but I'll need to see the school schedule in a week or two to know when school lets out.

Oh no! I am always ready to go, it is just that when you have responsabilities at work or other, sometimes it makes it difficult to narrow on the dates!
For example I had plan to go to Baja to Bahia de los Angeles on Feb, I took a different route and ended in Puerto Vallarta!
Sooooo, I had to go back this past October and do my Baja trip!
Also have you notice, I am always doing SOLO trips I am always on the run, if I am working or not I am always busy!
Time will tell...

Isabel is doing alot better, had quick decision surgery on Albuquerque and I am glad and happy we took the necessary steps to find a solution I hope this works out so that we may plan for more trips this year.
Today her eye looks almost good, very little pain and this are good news.
I will go to Batopilas this year is just a matter of when!

We did this trip last October/November (perfect weather) with Frenchie from http://www.4westernadventures.com/.
The drive down to Baptopilas from Creel will take about 6 hours. The last third? is the most 'interesting'. Ok except for the occasional suicide driver coming at you from around a blind corner. We stayed at Motel Margaritas about a 1/2 mile before Baptopilas. I would plan on staying at least one day in Bap. You can go to Satevo and then up the mountain and over to the Rio Urique (Rio Baptopilas?). We camped on the bank. This can take the better part of a day. You can take a ?better? road to the top of the mountain out of Bap bypassing Satevo. We went Rio Urique (I think thats right without looking at my notes to Tubares, turned right on the exc.mining road for several miles and then left up the mountain. Spent a large part of the day climbing the mountain in 4x4 low to avoid overheating. Once on top we were in a time crunch and decided to skip going to down to Urique. Pressed to Cerocahui and stayed the Paraiso del Oso (Yogi Bear) motel north of town. Made Chinipas late the next and then over the mountain to Alamos and Navojoa. Great trip with no problems but when Frenchie led the same trip earlier this year, all the rigs were broken into and robbed at the lunch stop in Hemosilla on their way to the border so he is no longer leading trips into Mexico.
I can email a trip writeup if anyone is interested.

PS: You can buy digital maps from mexicomaps.com but they are not very accurate for back roads - at least not in the Copper Canyon area. Get the latest info by talking to the very helpful people at 3 Amigos 4x4 rentals in Creel.
