Hello,

I am planning to upgrade our Forum server tonight 5-18-07. I don't have a definitive time yet, it will depend of the boss and kids.

I hope most of you will be on trips so the impact will be minimized.
If all goes well tomorrow morning the Forum will be up and running.

Thanks,
-JACK

It seems that I was able to upgrade the server to the new box.
Please let me know if you find a problem.

- For the people I am hosting the websites, please give a couple of days to get you all set.
- For the photogallery folks, the same. Give me some time to test fix it if needed.

Thanks,
-JACK

The photogallery seems to be back to action.
Enjoy it.

The hosted websites should be working. Please send me a note if you find problems. Or should I say, when you find the problems.

I restarted the server to see if it would come back quick and smooth. I think we are OK.

Enjoy it, theoretically faster CPUs, faster HDs, more disk space, more memory RAM, and the latest Linux Kernel and built.

Thanks,
-JACK

Looks great! Good job, Jack. It's really nice when major upgrades go well.

Good so far. At this point I can't detect any speed differences here.

Jim, thanks for the feedback. I don't want to be too happy, you know ..
The funny part is that Fedora is coming with a new release this month or next. I decided not to wait. I don't want to do the upgrade to their new build until people have some time to find the bugs. And we were getting behind on some OS updates that had security patches.

Uwe, thanks for the reply.

I believe the speed difference can't be noticed with the current server load.
That is, the time people see a post update and load screens is probably all due to the Internet. On the same network, it seems like I am working on the server. That is, the Forum update the screens for me as I was local and not using a web-based application.
I imagine that when we get the picks of hundred + people hitting the Forum these new disks should help keep that transparent.

I also have installed a new Photogallery software. It is not ready for prime time yet. I am not sure I have installed all the modules nor how reliable it is.

Today I need to take care of the backup schema. But just after taking care of the family duties.

Take care.

That's what I was thinking.

Can't say much about that since we have our pics on our own website. Just started to use the simple Photoshop gallery tool for that for now.
