I was noticing various places around the web that Mojave is littered with crashsites.

Has anyone every put together a trip checking these places out?

What about other crashsites?

In Mojave, there is the historical Yeager X1A crash, an F-15, the Adams X15A Crash w/monument, plus probably more that I don't know about.

Also, I've been reading about a CIA A-12 (secret plane that the SR71 decoyed for, flew higher, faster, longer) in the Nevada desert NE of Vegas, the guy won't disclose where is it, but I've been trying to figure out his tracks. :D

Anyone accidentally run across anything like this? Intentionally go looking?

Any stories to tell? Wanna schedule a trip?

On the first (?) 4WDTrips forum trip we came across a crash site of a small aircraft. Some research on the web indicated that it might have been used for smuggling.

Been to a remote F-4 crash site in the mojave desert. Still had parts of the wing and landing gear.

I've been to a few sites that I read about before going out, but like WhiteThaiGer pointed out, it was fun finding a wreck on our own.

I have G.P. Macha book. Aircraft wrecks in the Mtns & deserts of Calif. It covers 90 years and about 150 desert sites. The book doesn’t always list location, so I don’t know if it’s really a very good book.

Keep us posted about what you learn, I like checking out these sites when in the area.

There's parts of a plane below Needles Overlook on the Lackhart Basin road in Utah - have no idea what the history is. People have been swiping parts so it's getting hard to find.
