Death Valley getting too hot? How about a cool trip to Mammoth Lakes.
Just put up a new 4x4 trails page on the old state highway to Mammoth (http://www.gbr.4wdtrips.net/4x4/oldmam.html). Though not really a 4x4 trail, it's still a nice diversion than simply taking in the usual way into town via busy Highway 203.

The old state highway hit the old heart of Mammoth, which is now the southern end of town. But it opens up all that Mammoth has to offer (in spring, summer and autumn, of course!).

Enjoy the trip via my photos and writings, before you set out on your own adventure!

Thanks Dave for the info. on the Old Highway. I have driven this road many a time with my ATV's on my way over to explore Long Valley and have wondered who put it in and about the old patches of alphalt still seen in areas.

You have filled in the gap of my questions.

Thanks,
Fred

I've seen the road each week approaching the turnoff to CA203 (I work in Mammoth twice weekly) and wondered where it went. I was browsing around on my Delorme atlas and noticed it said the road was the old state highway. So I drove it and decided to share it with the world. Fun to take old roads.
