Planning for my SoCal/Baja trip and was hoping to visit a mission or two while in baja. Are there any guide books or websites out there with a good, comprehensive list of missions, coordinates, and road conditions to get to them? Eurorom's San Borja thread is what brought this to my attention for my planning effort.

Carl,
The best book I have come across, & added to my Baja library, on missions is "Las Misiones Antigues - The Spanish Missions of Baja California" by Edward W. Vernon. It has gps coordinates, pictures, history & also some directions for all Missions & Visitas in Baja.
I have been to all of the existing missions & most of the ruins if you have specific questions.
What areas of Baja are you planning for your visit?

Al,
Thanks, I'll keep my eye out for that one.
This will be my first baja trip so I mainly just want to go explore around some, not go too remote but enough to get a feel for it for future trips, and ultimately back up to Ensenada for the start of the 500.

The easiest ones to check out, that still have something to look at, without heading too far south are: San Miguel, San Vicente, San Fernando (all adobe ruins) & San Borja with a stone building still in use along with adobe ruins. The most remote mission, Santa Maria, is a full day by itself & not recommended to visit solo. Lift, sliders & locker recommended on a good day. The other major missions still in use & which are the nicest are all in Baja California Sur, Santa Gertrudis, San Ignacio, Santa Rosalia, Comondu, Loreto, San Javier & San Luis Gonzaga.

That's exactly the kind of stuff I wanted to hear. I'll note all that in my journal to look into more when I have a chance. I may have bitten off more than I can chew on this trip, but it'll be fun for sure.
