I was just reading this excerpt (http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/gallery.php) from the recent Isuzu Challenge (day 15) and this water crossing looks pretty fun if you are driving a donor vehicle that is a rolling advertisement for Isuzu http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif Oh man, I can't imagine the mess inside the engine bay...
"We arrive to cross the Jardine River and meet a family who tried to cross the 160m-wide stretch of water yesterday. But their vehicle is in front of us. Its bonnet is below the water and the boot is flooded. It is not an encouraging sight.
Nevertheless, Izik Mini – the convoy's 4WD expert – feels sure we will triumph and cross the river successfully. For four and a half years, no-one has crossed the Jardine in a vehicle."
Scott ought to enjoy this one http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/cool.gif

I noticed a mention of sealing the doors with tape and snorkels. Wonder what other precautions they took or how their vehicles were prepared for water that deep? I didn't look that close, but didn't see anything about what they were driving (besides being Isuzus) - were they diesels without lots of electrical stuff under the hood to get wet and quit working?</div>
I didn't quite understand the winch/cable arrangement either, but it sounded like they must have put a winch on the bank and wound the cable in as the vehicle drove across. I guess the well-equipped expedition travels with boats and portable winches and real long cables. Must be some winch spool to hold 500+ feet of cable if I understand it right. Anyone have/plan to haveinflatable boats and room for big spools of cable in their expedition vehicles?</div>
