Chuck, it's not too far - it's right off of I-10 at Baeumont (sp?) which is before you get into the LA area. (I even know a secret short cut to get there from SDhttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) You should join us!

If you don't take the secret short cut (which may not cut any time off when the freeways are clear) you'd go I15, I215, I60, and a tiny bit of I10. You can check it in a mapping program.

Yes we will be sending out information about the location to those that have told us they were coming on on this thread. It will be a week or two before the party. If you need it sooner let us know. We are delaying sending out the address because of persistant rumors that Jack intends to invite the entire population of Brazil.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/ieh.gif

Yukon Peggy and Yukon Bob,
First off, thank you in advance for hosting this affair.
My wife, Diana, and I would like to attend the party--assuming that the invitation is being extended to Newbies like us--but I would like to send our $ contribution up front please owing to the fact that we will be returning from our place in Baja (south of San Felipe at Punta Bufeo) and one never knows when the Fickle Finger of Fate will intervene and prevent us from making the date. If you will include an address in your PM regarding detailed directions, I will post said remuneration forthwith.
In addition, at the risk of being ridiculed by the tougher folks on this website (I can just hear the snickers), I must beg your indulgence of two individuals who have not slept on the ground under canvas for the last time, but now limit those times to near perfect weather conditions. (We haven't given away our tent and sleeping bags.)
So, unless you have some method of guaranteeing ideal temperatures, no precipitation, and no Santa Annas (Cherry Valley in late March at 2800'???) we would like to drag our 25' 5th-wheel into that open space you so bravely pictured above. You mention room for one with an Airstream. Maybe there's a spot way off in a corner, where we wouldn't embarrass anyone and we promise not to run the generator (solar panels and 6V golf bats). Maybe you can feed us off to the side of the campfire.
If you have limited space and cannot accommodate us, we can use El Rancho Brookside or Bogart.
We don't take the 5th-wheel to Baja but we will drop it off at one of the RV dealers in Banning/Beaumont for "servicing" and then pick it up on the way back to your place.
Thanks,
Allen
P.S. On edit: I just realized that there is a Class even lower than Newbie. Hope I didn't offend any of our superiors.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/eyes.gif

Hi,
I just realized that I needed to let you know that I will be at the 'going to be fun' party. Probably will get there Saturday - early afternoon. Looks like you will be having a good attendance. I am looking forward to seeing everyone I know, and meeting the new people!
Should I bring anything?

And your favorite drinks. I believe Peggy can help on this question more than I can.

Is this before or after we drink margaritas?I guess between margaritas: Brunch margaritas go with breakfast after the hike/run. When people have the last margaritas before the hike may depend, some may choose not to go to bed and just join the fun straight from the bar http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/blush.gif

Hi everyone,
Many have asked "what can we bring?" The answer is:
-bring your own beverages
-camp chairs
- your best party mood (absolutely no fun-suckers allowed!)
-If your camping here - you may want to bring your own towels too.
Don't forget your photos, videos or any other item you would like to share with others.
See you all soon!

I like having a party where everybody camps. Lot's less for me to do.</div>
A last minute request to all within earshot. I need your vote for the best trip of the year. It doesn't have to be a trip you were on. I thought about that but trips with only two people could only get two voteshttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/headscratch.gif . If you didn't go on the trip but the words and photos here on the forum made you say I won't miss that one again, then give it a vote. Of course you can vote for one that made you exclaim, "I'm really glad I'm here." Sorry Baja, only one vote.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/nono.gif </div>
Secret ballot please by private message. No peeking, Jack. </div>
While you are at it you can give me votes for best photographer and best trip report. Please name the trip. Got a catagory and a nominee for some other worthy deed or accomplishment. Send it on. The awards committe will look at everything.</div>

A little warmer tomorrow night. (5-10 degrees).

Wow! What a party...and we did only the Saturday p.m. part! Diana and I had a great time. What fun it is to put real persons behind our 'handles'!
Thank you, thank you, Peggy and Bob for being such gracious hosts. Peggy, it seemed to us that you never got out of the kitchen. Thanks so much for everything.
Bob, I was, indeed, serious about hosting the SECOND ANNUAL 4WD PARTY at latitude N 29º 54.47' W 114º 26.71' next year, but we'll have to work out a suitable date. I might have mentioned that on April 9 next, we celebrate my father's 99th b-day, so next year will be his 100th! Since Palm Sunday and Easter fall in the last couple of week-ends in March 2005, things will be crrraaazzzzzy on the beaches of Baja, that puts us into the first part of April. Ergo, the 9th complicates it for us a bit. If mid-to-late April works for folks, we can make that a do-able date. Otherwise, May would be the month. (Better for weather and the absence of 'bobitos' anyway.)
In any case, there's some time to work out the details.
Again, many, many thanks to Bob and Peggy, and to all of you 'Pros' who turned out for the 'OFF-ROAD EXPO-CHERRY VALLEY'. I learned a lot. Chris, I've already spent a bunch of $ via the cell phone on the return trip.
Ciao,

It was so nice that all the people who had to travel a long distance came as well, especially the AZ folks! The time just seemed to go by too fast!
I know that it was a lot of work and I really appreciate them putting forth the time and the effort to put this together for all of us to enjoy!
I am looking forward to seeing more pictures!
Thanks!

The key to anyparty is the people who attend. This was a great group of people. Thanks to all of you for making it a special event.
Allen and Diana have kindly volunteered to host next years party. My straw poll indicates that the extra distance to Punta Bufeo would keep some people from attending.
So we will continue on with the original plan of the last weekend in March in Cherry Valley for next years party.
There is one complication. That is Easter weekend. I need to get a feeling for how this will impact attendance.
It can't be a party without the people.

Maybe we can do a 'Waiting-for-the-annual-party-gettogether' again like we did in November and have that one down in Baja. Waiting one year for such a party may be too long for some of us http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Great pics! I didn't get too many, I just didn't try very hard - too busy socializing http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif But I will post a couple real soon. I think a party at Punta Bufeo would be unforgettable, but Bob had a good point. For those who would not attend, maybe kidnapping isn't out of the question?

I like the idea of a interim party down in Baja...yeah!!!http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/beertoast.gif

Srisuda,
Many thanks for the pix. What fun! No objection from me re:photo on BB. I was "de-briefed" over 30 years ago! http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/ignore.gif
An interim party en la playa del campo Punta Bufeo in November sounds great. Oct is usually considered by us habituées as the best month, but early Nov follows closely. The El Nortes can start up in Nov, and last Nov 22, after the Baja 1000, we had a doozy. A spring tide and a north wind howling in excess of 40 knots pushed the Sea of Cortez up and around our house. Ours happens to be built up a few feet above the normal line, but some neighbors had a couple of inches of tidal surge on their floors. One neighbor was awakened by a "Presto Log"--burning, no less--floating out of his fireplacehttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/help.gif .
Bottom line is early Nov or late Oct would be more reliable weather. Also, the water is still holding a bit of warmth.
Again, thanks to Judy and Bob. Glad we were there.

I haven't the foggiest (maybe that's the problem...you know...in a fog) idea where I came up with Judy. Maybe I'd better not show that post to Diana either.
My humble apologies, Peggy.
Looks like we're working towards an October party on the sands of Playa de Punta Bufeo.
P.S. I would go back and edit out my error, but too many have already seen it.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/smashfreakb.gif

Cool Peggy, someone else wanting to swim with the giants! http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/bounce2.gif I had one dream fulfilled in this last trip when I touched agray whales, now it's time for dream #2 and to see the whale sharks!
I camped one night at Gecko this past trip. It was nice, but really crowded and thus prettyloud at all hours, I had a hard time sleeping. I still loved BOLA though, very beautiful. I also caught several cool snakes on the road in. http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/ok-kewl.gif

Ohhhhh Man, I would so love to see one of them in person!!! The largest fish in the ocean, and totally safe to dive with (just dont try to grab the tail for a ride, it swings a 10' arc)
We saw a good sized manta ray about 20 yards off shore near the point.
