View Full Version : Once a year a week trip

Here is one idea.</div>
We can try to book a week where we all can plan to take a week vacation in advance; for a longer trip.</div>
Lets say Moab, Colorado, Baja Sur, Copper Canyon, and on and on.</div>
Every year we bounce ideas and vote on the location.</div>
We need to start by picking the week in the year that best work for us.</div>
For me, it will be best during a break for the kids so they don't loose class. Spring break for instance.</div>
Can we start to talk about it?</div>
I really liked when we did the Zafari(s), Grand Escalante, Canyon Lands. That you can feel the vacation.</div>
Lets see if we can pick the best time for most of us.</div>

Where did everyone go http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/gottogo.gif Seems this topic made everyone hit the road.
I like the idea Jack. I would likethe spring break trip but I may have to go in my Tahoe with my granddaughter Vanessa. Bob has a secret dangerous trip I am passing up. He may be goneweeks. Vani has cabin fever and is looking forward to a 4X trip. Am I allowed to go with you guyswithout Bob? Vani and I will surprise you with our off-road maneuvers.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/smhair.gif
I guess I'm voting yes to a yearly one week trip.

Jack, http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/idea.gif here's another thought.
Becauseour very dear friendsmoved to different parts of the state, we formed a pact to meet at least once ayear. Each year, one couple plans out an entire weekend (3-4 days). The other two couples have no idea where we are meeting or doing. As time nears, we are told of the location, what to bring and wear. It has always been great fun.
Maybe we can have a secret 4X weekend too.Forum membersplan a trip in their area and only tell people where to meet and necessary details (camp/motel etc, food). This might be fun to try.
Just a thought -http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/wink.gif

I like the idea of a week long trip. For Utah that's kind of the minimun for us SoCal people. I guess it's getting late for planning something for spring. Now we have done White Rim in July, so it's possible, just not comfortable, but then, lot's of you guys have fridges http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/wink.gif

Jack, I think you would probably have a better response if you made it less than a week. From my esperience, it is hard to get everyone together for a solid week. Alot of it has to do with available vacation time, and family. As in the family wants the vacation time for something besides a camping trip.</div>
I know I have 4 or 5 "major" (vacation time required) trips this year alone. It would be much easier for people to get together for a long weekend, than a entire week, especially if it was a annual trip.</div>

Absolutely yes!
GoodTimes, this is more an idea for the future. If we plan a head we will know that we can choose a location that involve some driving.
Peggy, your idea is great. No need to have it in a week. We can alternate with the Az folks a 3 days weekend. Lets surprise the group that comes.

I would be up for it, providing that we could plan well in advance so I can try to get the time off. Also summer is a bad time for me, because they limit the amount of time off we can take. Oh, sorry, summer is June-August.</div>
But a week long trip to Utah, Colorado sounds fun!</div>

I can do some planning. http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif Most of my focus right now is on Sierra Pinacate but I have two quick suggestions.
Northern Chihuahua, Mexico.
Centered around Casas Grandes. Sites important to prehistoric cultures,to the history of the Apache and the history of Chihuahua. Modern reproductions of prehistoric art works in Mata Ortiz. A visit to a virgin confluence near the Rio Palanganas.Mostly hotels to keep the wives happy with a few nights camping tokeep the kids happy.
Sonora, Mexico
A tour to explore the history of the Spanish inSonora. The mainidea will be tovisit a lot of missions. I'm not as sure aboutlogistics for this trip so I don't know what the mix of hotel and camping will be.
Both trips will probably include some time in Southeastern Arizonafor history. The study in all parts will be light but entertaining to impress the young minds.

We could just make the once a year trip to a new virgin confluence each year. They will always be lots to see a do on the way. Once we get all the ones within a weeks distance, we'll have to start the once a year two week trip.Should only take us forty or fifty yearshttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Always interested, BUT... We'll have some overseas visitors here during that time. I want to take them on a short (motel-based) trip.</div>
The weekend 17/18 April is mostly reserved for Team Baja.</div>
