It's not really worth a thread, but maybe we'll have other stuff like this...

On the Baja trip Bob had this little PCMICA card for reading Compact Flash to the notebook. I thought that was handy and more convenient to carry than the USB cable for the camera. To my surprise he said it was only $5. So I went ahead on ordered one like this (http://store.yahoo.com/digi4me/comcarpcadco.html).I found a free shipping coupon for these people somewhere on the net.
They have them for SD cards and Smart Media, but they cost more I think.

I've been using a USB card reader for a few years. Not only is it easier to carry than a cable, it uses no batteries and it can plug into almost anyones computer, to share pictures or info.

Many of the new laptops have them built in too. My new HP has a 4 way card reader built into the side. I have found it very useful

I have a similar setup. I use a digital camera with SmartMedia cards and my wife uses CompactFlash. I bought a compactflash card adapter that can read the SmartMedia cards and I can view them directly on my Compaq PDA. It's a quick and dirty way to review the pictures in a somewhat more convenient fashion than using the camera -- larger screen, image viewer applications that zoom, etc.
