Looks like there are 2 ways used by the people around here to air down:

1)Deflators (Staun)

2) Valve stem pull-out tool.

What are some of the pros and cons, reasons to choose one over the other?

Pulling the valve stem is a pain in the butt, but it is faster than the deflators. This really isn't a big issue with the small tires that we are all using on our trucks.

The Staun deflators (if I am not mistaken) are expensive compared to the generic, non-calibrated type. The kind I have are the $15 kind from any good 4x4 shop. The screw onto the valve stem and let the air out until you unscrew them. the drawback is that you have to pay attention or you will let too much air out.

The Staun (or other 'calibrated' deflators) are expensive (I have heard ~$50, but never actually checked the price myself), but once they are set, you can screw them on and drive away. Your tires will deflate to the pre-set pressure, and that is it. You can remove them later.

Price is soon forgotton, quality is not.

I use the trailhead deflators. They are not as good as the Staun, as they require street pressure to start working (30+) psi. I run my Jeep tires at 28 on the street, and they deflators wont work.

I like mine Stauns. Maybe they will have 0.5 to 1 psi error between them. But what is the resolution of your gage anyway ...

If you think on the many years of use. The $40 or $45 is nothing.

</div>Would be nice if one could get them for $40-$45! It's more like $50-$60. Harry has them for $60 incl. shipping&amp;tax (I think).

Uwe, try calling Mike at xtreme off-road and see what his price is. I won my set from him at the AZ Rocks raffle. I'll bet he has a good price.

I just gotta say it - I saw the title tire deflator and wasn't thinking air pressure and airing down at all. I was thinking - you want to deflate your tires you just run over a goodsize nail! But couldn't figure out why in the heck anyone would deliberately want to do such a thing.

The nice thing about being blonde is that at least I have an excuse for being dumb!http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/chairfall.gif
