Hello,

I am sure we are all catching-up at work. Then we will write, share pictures, talk about the details.

I LOVED this trip. It was VERY nice. Exploration, adventures, desert, ocean, mountains, hiking, some nigh driving, some technical sections, good food, good talk, and GREAT people.

Bob and Al, thank you for leading and sharing some of your favorite spots. Thanks the group for being so nice during the trip. Thanks Doron and Baja for coming to CA to meet us for crossing the border.

I agree with Uwe, cool way to start the year.

Group 3 (Jack, Baja, us) got in line at 5:30 and crossed at 6:35.

Talking about the border.... We got a pleasant surprise on the way down into Mexico: free Tourist cards. It appears that currently tourist cards for stays of less than 7 days are free.

We made it home last night (this morning) safely, tired but happy. We had a great time. Thank you all. It’s hard to find people that share the same set of basic values that we do… Special thanks to Bob and Peggy for leading us across the border. Put Cindy at ease.

I heard on the news this morning that wait times at the border are very long in some places, glad you guys didn't have that long of a wait.

Now the Az folks now what I was doing to come for some trips from North Cal. Actually, I had to drive 10 hours to get to San Diego, to then drive to the trip starting point.

I have posted the article I got on the LR Defender on the mods. Task closed.

I am at work, don't have access to my camera to post some pics.

Thanks,

Looks like I'm the last one to chime in here. That job is sure eating into my time.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/wink.gif

What a great trip and what a great group of people. It's not easy for a large group of people to go into the unknown together and have so much fun. It says a lot about all of you and your "Spirit of Adventure". Thank you!

We got to the border ay 3:55 and crossed at 4:50. We spent twice as much time (2 hours) for dinner in Temecula at Anthony's. A most pleasant affair! The longest border crossing I've ever made at Tecate but still not unpleasant.

Doron, it was no problem at all with the border crossing. It looks like we picked the best time to cross.

I'll try and get some pictures up tonight but first review suggest that most aren't worth the bandwidth. http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/cry.gif

I agree with my husband, this was good all the way around - starting with the traveling buddies. Everyone including the children and cat contributed to this adventure. It was the perfect way to start the new year. Thanks to Al for leading us to the mission. What a spectacular setting and the hikewas a good challenge for me. Yes Baja, I wasreturning for the salt- the margarita salt! Baja did an excellent job leading the pack on our impromptu night drive (it sure gets dark in the desert). Jack gets lots of kudosfor being an excellent broom- I mean sweep. He is not only good at sweeping the pack but also sweeping his family at the same time.Incredible job Jack. Thanks to Georgia, we learned that we women are way to young for the men we travel with.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/yeah.gif Doron, Cindy, Abbey and Ethan - what brave souls to travel with us. The most Brazilian award on this trip goes toDoron's family. Dos Platos for leading us to the Indian archeological site or what we could find of it. Did anyone else get as scratched (and bloody) as Bob on thehike? When are we going to see Salsita's pics? We all know she took plenty.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/camera_flash.gif

Sign us up for anytrip with this group ~ http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/supercool.gif ~ thanks for the adventure!

Yes, it was headed in the right direction for a while but it sure wasn't any express route. It was starting to look like there were too many canyons between us and where the road should have been. Hard to tell in the dark. I'll post some other map shots so you can see what I was seeing. Guess we'll have to go back.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/hop.gifI don't think a week would be enough time to explore all those roads.

Uwe, nice work on splicing together the satellite images. You are always raising the bar.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/ok-kewl.gif . How did you like working with that 58K point plot?
I use the splicing too when I create files for printing. I don't know how else to get a decent resolution. I have noticed that for some pics their is a slight rotation, i.e. splicing is not straight forward. This is the case for the El Golfo trip.</div>
I didn't use the 58K plot. I used Baja's track (translated with Mag->Ozi) and for the return trip via Tecate, which was not on Baja's trip, I added my plot.</div>

Not sure if I have said it befoe, but the sat images always are very cool. http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/ok-kewl.gif I make maps at workoften using GPS data I collect, but I don't own my own unit yet. One of these days when I opt for my own GPS, I'll be able to post some cool stuff like that. Nice work.
</div>Thanks. Just wait till you see them printed in 12x18!

Yea, now that I am more comfortable with the software, I am touching up most of them, but some are just the way they came from the camera. It's really cool how much the software can "clean up" the pics.
</div>What exactly do you do?

Boy,

The SAT pictures are way cool!

Regarding Baja. It is nice. I will not talk much until you guys come with me to Brazil. Then you will understand. You saw some pictures from the book. You need to see it in person. Smell it. Sleep on it.
I guess it is all relative, right? What you know is your reference.

OK, since you insisted, just talk a bit then:

- How about getting a fresh mango while hiking?
- Oh look at this nice waterfall. Lets see who is the last to jump in the pool. Ouch, so refreshing.
- Need some lemon for the drink. Better we get some behind the camp-site.
- Nice bananas. They are melting with sugar.
- Then get some coconut watter under some shade?
- Then enjoy the ocean with a real swim on the same trip.
- How come a waterfall coming to the beach? No way, can't be. It must be a local secret not be spoil.
- Look, we can walk on the low tie for a looonngg time. Boy, this pool so far from the sand is nice. The water is so warm.
- Oh, watch out for the "low flying airplanes and super jets", my neck is hurting ...

Got it?

- Jack

Just to keep it all in perspective...Don't really see anything in your list that Thailand doesn't have to offer also. The culture over there is even moredifferent than in Brazil.

What are you trying to say? That you understand my point?

I know that are lots of great places around the world. I don't claim Brazil is it. Just nice too.

We've gotten a little off the mark

Jack had made the statement that Baja (the place) didn't impress him. I was just wondering if he felt the same way after his recent visit.

I'm make a list for the next triphttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/joker1.gif

Here is a 1:250000 topographaic map that covers the La Bocana portion of the trip. There are proposed routes that I drew using the Baja Almanac as a reference. There is the route that we traveled through Mujeres that doesn't show on any maps as a road. The routes traveled and planned indicate the road we were looking to take out was at the junction of the other two roads. We probably missed it in the fading light. All the roads were good and there are plenty more to travel. http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/idea.gif

I added links to the galleries to the first post in this thread. Maybe we should make that a habit, to have links to the pics in the first post of a trip report.

Doron, Srisuda was wondering how Abbey's pics turned out. Does she have any to share? What about some trip impressions from the diaries?[/quote]
