I know Ed Angel (through my friend in Alaska Mike) who competed in the 2000 event. http://www.northern4x4.com/events/rainforest_challenge.htm
I also have the 1999 video for the event, if anyone would like to borrow it... Toyota's rule that event.

We need Jack to take us to (and back from) the jungle.

Chris,

Have you ever thought of climbing the tallest mountain in Baja (Volcan de las tres virgines: 6,547ft), or the big daddy in Mexico (Volcan Pico de Orizaba: 18,406ft)?

Might be a cool adventure...

No problem, well some probably. 12/2004 is coming. I hope my trip to South America will really happen.

This kind of road is easy to find in Brazil.

I have been very close to Picacho Del Diablo from the east (most difficult) side, in one of the canyons just below it. That is some TOUGH stuff! I would love to get up on top some day.

I would also love to get up on the (tallest volcano?) in Baja, which Scott mentioned. We tried to access the tres virgines from the south end in 2000 (main road that leaves Mex 1 just southeast of the 3 virgins), but the road is signed as no trespassing - looks to be a mining/natural gas operation or something.

JUNGLE. Yea, baby. I would love to get down there to do some classic South American expedition travel. BUT, I must say, of all the types of 4wheeling, I dislike MUD the most.

Scott, that's pretty cool that you know this guy Ed who has run the RFC! You should get him to come and visit the forum sometime.

By the way, did you guys check out the video and pics of that Land Rover Tomcat? That thing looks FUN!!! http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/yeah.gif

We just have to make sure we don't stick around on the rain season.
On regular days the rain come down strong, stops, and the sun is out again.
I also, don't like mud. Specially if you are driving in a narrow road with nothing to hold you.
I am about to go to Marcelo's to get my maps, magazines and some chocolates my mother sent. I will bring the maps and magazines to the next trip.
