Bob came up with the idea for this thread, I thought it might be a good idea...

Quite a number of the regularson the forumlive within 1.5h of here.... The biggest problem I see right now is that it would be on a weekend and cut into valuable exploring time.

Who would be interested?
Possible dates?

There is a guest room, there are couches and plenty of square feet of floor to put air matsfor those who would stay overnight.* (most comfortable spots given to those with longest approachhttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/wink.gif )

Since it was Bob's ideahttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/idea.gif we would like to offer our home for the first gathering of the 4wdtrips party.I mentioned the idea to Jacknearly a year ago and I should have followed throughhttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/sleeping.gif sorry Jack.

We have plenty of camping spaces for those who want the feel of being outdoors - extra bedroom, bathrooms, floor space etc. We are 5 1/2 hours from Tucson, 4 hours from Prescott, approx 2 hrs or less from San Diego/LA/Orange County areas.

Salsita and Dos Platos - if your set on doing it this year, we volunteer our home for next year.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/supercool.gif

This would be a good time for sharing all the info, pics and video (Steve?) from favorite trips and, of course, to show off all4x toys and maybe get some Brazilian bbqhttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/wink.gifIt would also give the significant others who can't makethe trips an opportunity to meet the 4wdtrippers.
I'm sure if the exploring itchbecomestoo greathttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/jumpin.gif , a quick 4x run into the nearby hills can be arranged at a moments notice!

It was a good joke http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/smilewinkgrin.gif It's not like I felt I had to start this thread...

The proposed date is far into the the future, but it's after the (hopefully) busy winter desert exporing season. There is no problem with having it here, we just don't have the camping space that you have.

Lets pick a date so we can mark our calendar.

Maybe we can start on a Friday night. Barbecue, camp at Bob's then explore around his area, or just barbecue again ...

Baja, get a Southwest $80 ticket. We all pitch $10.00 for you and lovely wife. Then it will be almost no cost.
We can all bring pictures from our last trips.

I might be able to do the trip to SD area next year - anytime over the fall/winter would be better suited for the trip to the Yukon's place.

Either one sounds FUN!!!!!!! http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/hop.gif If we don't need to worry about 4-wheeling, Mr & Mrs Baja have a new roadtrip vehicle that gets superb gas mileage and has very low emissions, so a CA trip with it would be a blast. Bob, there may be a *small* problem with the May time frame for the annual throw down. May is when we usually do the ZafaRi trips to Moab (but not this year). 2 long trips in one month may be a bit much for us rookie road trippers.

If we are having the party at our place, and that's something that needs to be decided, I am trying to have it when the weather is reasonable warm. We're at 3,000 feet and the winters can get pretty cold. We've got plenty of floor space for sleeping bags but I would image that some would feel better outside. We've got about half an acre available for vehicle camping. More for some tents. Plenty of bathrooms and hot water.

Sure don't want to be close to Zafari!. Let's try the last weekend in March. And I know people aren't doing too much traveling in the summer so maybe the Fourth of July weekend would be good. It would certainly keep me out of Yuma. I'm trying to stay away from either October and April because those are the two best traveling months for me and I assume for others.

So your choices are last weekend in March or Fourth of July weekendhttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/headscratch.gif. How say you?

JackSilb
09-27-2003, 04:42PM
Bob,

We are so far away from these dates that I can't decide. I don't have any plans for these dates. Both are fine with me.
Maybe you should start a posting pool with the dates. That will help you keep track.

If you are OK with us invading your place, that will cool. We keep imagining what your place looks like ...

Bob is in TJ today http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/devil.gif so I'll answer for him.

Our house has been chosen for the FIRST ANNUAL 4WD PARTY. Bob suggested next year because most people - I take that back - normal people already have plans for the holiday season (November/December). Also we can get some chilly weather for anyone who plans to camp. We do have lots of floor space/couches for people too. Maybe we should call it the 4WD Annual PAJAMA Party - YES you have to wear some sort ofpjs. Not all gears, toys and gadgets need to be displayed at this function.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/blush.gif

Our house is located in Cherry Valley - the area where I-10 andhwy 60 intersect. To give you an idea of driving time, we are about 1 hour from Los Angeles;less than 2 hrs from San Diego; about four hours from Prescott; 5 1/2 hours from Tucson; 4 hours from Phoenix. Ontario and Palm Spring airports are both 40 minutes away. We can probably arrange pick-up service for those flying in.

With that said, let's hear from the members.

Steve/Jack vote - November 22/23
Bob vote - March 26-28th

Members - its your party - lets hear your vote.

Why do we have to choose? 2 parties!!http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/supercool.gif

Have the big annual party up in Cherry Valley in March, that gives everyone time to plan for it, particularly the people with longer drives. No other location is as well tied into the transportation options or as well suited for people to camp and to explore.

Meanwhile we could have a little informal get-together for the 'not so normal' peopledown here, i.e. people who still have that Nov. weekend open and can't wait till March http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/smilewinkgrin.gif .

Hello,

We can still talk about details here up to the point of exchanging addresses.
I will take care of barbecuing. I need to find another store that sells the secret sea salt for barbecue made in Brazil. The one I knew is closed.
What else?
Is getting together and food the only plan? Or should we stick a visit to the wield animal park during the morning to show it to BajaTaco and others that have not been there?

Is the focus of the food on barbecue? If so, no need to bring other things. It would just stay in the way of the beef. Some potatoes and apple will do. No bread...
