Hey Cecile - it looks GREAT! I like the gray background for the text - easy on my eyeballs. The top header looks really nice too with the font and the artwork. I also really like that pic for the "when it rains, it floods!" article. Looks like some exciting times on tne mountain there http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif

Goodness I guess I never wrote about our Fat Hill Fandango in July. We were either one step ahead of or behind the desert and mountain thunderstorms. The tough road, the Swansea Grade - that we take the tour on to get to Cerro Gordo was in better shape than it usual is, but when we got to Cerro Gordo the Yellow Grade Road - the easy road, was washed out and had a 4 foot drop off. We had to take the group out the Lee Flat road which is on the Death Valley side of the mountains which meant going through even hotter desert country and and an extra 50 miles which takes 2 hours on dirt roads. Swansea Grade which we came up on is too tough for the average vehicle if you hit it from Cerro Gordo, so we were lucky the Lee Flat road hadn't been washed out. The next afternoon we had to go back in to Cerro Gordo the same way. Fortunately the morning we planned to leave the road crews had cleaned up the Yellow Grade road enough that Roger and I were the first people on it., and didn't have to hit the Lee Flat road and that long road again. The Yellow Grade has since washed out 3 times, and is waiting for funds to come in so it can be repaired again. I hear it is passable with 4wd high clearance, though.
We had David A. Wright, historian & author of Great Basin Research with us. For pictures and a discussion of our trip: http://death-valley.us/postx817-0-0.html

I got great video of the whole trip, by the way. Including David's truck as well as everyone elses going up the tougher Swansea hills, the lecture he gave us about the mines up at Burgess, and the fun Roger & I had when we went back up to stay at Cerro Gordo for three days after saying good bye to the group. Oh, and I got pictures of the road crew putting finishing touches on the Yellow Grade road just as we went down it. Great time! You might want to check out David's website, by the way.

Pics & specs on his truck, his great writings, and always great pics of the week. He was working on his trip report about our adventures, but it's not posted yet. In coming months I'm sure you'll be hearing about his adventures with us to Bodie, as well as Cerro Gordo, as he's headed up there with us this Sunday! He's an expert on the history of the Bodie railway, so it should be interesting.
