For some reason, I have a feeling you have much better moving stories than I do.http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/devil.gif

My move was very easy. My old boss came over to help me load the U-haul, that took us about 3 hours. Then it took me another 4 hours to make the drive out of LA. I left at 1:30pm on a Friday afternoon. I stopped about midnight somewhere between phoenix and tucson. Saturday morning I drove the final50 miles or so to Tucson, then Wofie and Darin came over and helped me unload the U-haul in 110*+ weather. Then on Monday, I flew back to LA, picked up my jeep and the remaining stuff (kayak, mountain bike, camping gear, etc), and drove back to Tucson, arriving around 11:00pm. I got up the next morning to find that someone had broken into the jeep and stole the stereo and some camping gear. Then I finished unloading what the thieves had not, and called the move "done". Still waiting on the insurance company though.....

Not much of a story huh?http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/sleeping.gif

I need a good bath and change my clothes before I write some of the stories.
Until 20 min back we did not have have soap in the bath. Well, it is inside one of the 140+ boxes we have. Shower was with baby shampoo. Not much effective on a dirty guy like me.

Hello,

I am sure you are all waiting for this posting.
So let’s go.

I was under the impression that I had a house to move. The Truck was schedule for Tuesday (8/26). I went home for the weekend to help pack (after arriving from Brazil on Monday 8/18). Georgia and the kids arrived on Thursday 8/21. It took 2 days to get Georgia going because she was a bit sick and tired.

By this time it was Saturday. The Internet connect went down, as you noticed, the ISP cut when I originally asked them to cut since we would move on Saturday (old plan).
I called them every 20 minutes because I was promised that the connection would come back in 15 min. DID NOT!
Now I was without Internet, could not get to e-mail, could not pay bills on-line, check for phone numbers, all the good staff, and you without the Forum.

Checking the house, I was told that the owner did not want to rent it anymore. At this point I almost got in a plane to check new houses. But people would not be able to check my credit history.

O Monday (8/25) I had a company off-site meeting. I woke-up at 4:00 to be at work between 9:00 and 10:00. We still did not have a house to move to, less than 24 hours to move.

This time I decided to be smarter than before. I saw a couple of houses during the morning before my meeting really started and told them that the first that called me back I would close on the deal, I had backup houses …

Nobody called by 4:00 PM. During a break I called all of them. One said that the owner just wanted 1 year lease.
Ah, I forgot to tell you my conditions. A 6 months lease, two dogs, and move in a couple of days. That was making things complicated. I finally got one that closed the deal. And it was one of the best houses.

After I left my meeting, I went to sign the paperwork. I lost my United flight, that kindly offered me to get me on the next DAY flight for $100+. I walked 20 meters, and got a full paying ticket with SouthWest for ~$100.00. SteveS, United is doing a very good business with the customers.

I had to fly to Okland or San Jose. My car was at SFO (San Francisco). Around 10:30 PM I got to San Jose. Got a Van that costed me ½ of the air ticket. A round trip on the van is as expensive as flying SouthWest. Go figure ..
I left the car at SFO to get the next day.

I got home around 11:30 or so. Still need to prepare things for the move. The office was all still unpacked. I worked until 3 AM or so. Then got up at 6:00 to finish.

Hold on. We still have things to come … http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/ieh.gif

The move.

The huge truck came about 40 min late.Very soon, they realized that nobody came before them to pack the glass top of our desks. We have about 5 of them. Nobody came to disconnect the washer and dryer. They all have their work …
Nobody came to pack the kitchenware, computers, etc. I summary, someone dropped the ball.
I got on the phone with the moving coordinator. She was surprised too. Well, I believe she was the one the slept on this.
I was lucky that we did most of the packing. That way the moving guys were busy.
After 4 hours or so of work some people show-up to pack the table glasses and disconnect the washer and dryer. I am sure why they need someone to come to disconnect such unsophisticated appliances.

Anyway, after 6 hours of so someone show-up to pack the kitchenware.
It was about 8 PM or so we the guys left.

I got a call from the realstate agent telling me that the cleaning people would be able to come. OUTCH! If we could clean a bit ...

Now it was time to clean the house. We did some but we were all too tired.
Next day, Wednesday, we signed the paperwork on escrow and came back to still clean the house. We finished around 5: 00 PM. The perfect time to get the perfect hush our. Have you try to cross the San Mateo bridge at this time? Don’t try!

Now we needed to drive two cars during the night to get to San Diego, early Thursday because the truck was to arrive.

After 3 or so hours driving, the truck driver told me that the delivery date has been pushed out to Saturday. OH MAN!

Now were tired, the dogs in the car, somewhere at I5 and felling that our efforts to clean the house as quick as we could, leave with enough time to drive, and drive was not really necessary.

We got a motel to sleep. Getting in the room we noticed that there were about 10 flies around each room. We hunted them down because I was too tired to drive to another place.

Breakfast, no shower, same clothe, back on the road.

We got in San Diego around 2:00 PM on Thursday. Unloaded part of the car. Left to register the kids at the schools. Dinner and back to camp in the house. It was cold. We slept all together on the floor. I did not want to go to a hotel because the dogs were too long inside the car already. Leaving them alone in the yard of the new house would not be a good idea. They would make noise.
My mistake, it was a bad night. We can’t do this anymore.

!@@@#$ the dogs! We should have gone to a nice hotel.

That was what we did on Friday. Nice bed and shower.

Saturday around 9:30 the truck arrived. They noticed that people did not come to UNPACK the glass top and connect the washer and dryer.
GIVE ME A BREAK PLEASE.

Do they need people to remove 10 screws from each crater and connect 3 hoses?!

Anyway, how did you like this move?

I am glad nobody broke in the house or cars. I still have my electronics toys (I guess).

Baja,

That was a very nice illustration. I am sure we will keep this around.

We went to the beach this weekend, ~ 15 min from home. Surfing and body boarding.
On the way back we saw many balloons landing a block from our place. We took some pictures. Once I get my hands on the camera again I will share with you.

Yap, just checked the look at them. It was time for undivided attention. I have not touched my toys for a while now. Can even fix the 4Runner short circuit deal. Just work, home box related activities, school related visits, finding a daycare, finding a volleyball club, finding a soccer club, finding a horse back riding place, finding a jujitsu place. The usual family thing.
Not getting into a plane to go home is estrange now.

Don't feel bad Jack. I have only had 3 days off since I started my new job. I left early today since I already have 45 hours this week. I have only had time for 2, 1/2 day exploring trips, I still sit on a jeep seat in the living room, have toolboxes as furnature, no radio in either the jeep (stolen) or truck (quit working 2 days after the one in the jeep was stolen). I did finally get insurance since my Co in CA isn't licensed to carry insurance here, but no drivers license, no car registration, no new hiking boots (which have to be broken in before the confluence trip).....no kayaking, no fishing, no chasing skirts down at the college.......moving sucks. I think I'll do it again soon. hahaha........

How about some pictures from my week in Brazil?

This location is in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro. We rented a room in the Yatch club, then a boat for a short trip.
This isa place where people own part of/or an entire island.

No, I am waiting my friend Uwe to get me into it.
Once / if I have my 4Runner there we will be able to do some nice trips. There is so much to be seen. Things that I have not even planned to see before.

My current plan is to take the 4Runner in 12/2004. This year would be good because of the number of weeks of free time-off, but with the house goal / lack of funding this project needs to be pushed out.

p.s. I will be at ProTrux Tuesday morning. Need to check a quote to install headers and check the transmission. It is kind harder than usual to shift into first gear these days.
