View Full Version : Sun Shade for truck.
I picked up one of these
http://www.sportsshade.com/textonly.asp?NavButton=01&.asp
It came in last night so I haven't done any set-up or seen how I can use it with my (our) rigs, but it looks to be build nicely.
More about this later.
BTY; I got mine at www.cabelas.com (http://www.cabelas.com)

DON'T CLICK ON THAT LINK!! http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/freaked.gif POP-UP nightmare... http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/baja_rofl.gif
I think the one that Anita meant to link to is www.cabelas.com (http://www.cabelas.com)
So, how do you two like the canopy? I had seen those and was really curious about them. Do you think it will be ok in a moderate wind? Looks nice and convenient, that's for sure. EDIT - ok, I just read more at the sport shades website, and it says they come with retractable guy-lines, and not to use in winds exceeding 25mph. That's cool - looks like it'll do fine in a good breeze. Please let us know how you like it and if your roof rack is long enough for attachment.

Steve,
Did you get the 4WDTrips stamp on it?
If not, then you will not have the same attention as you deserve on our trips.
How much did you pay for it?
What is your primary intention? Shade? http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
It may work OK for rain without wind too.

Hi Jack:</div>
Steve is off today so he probably won't get back to you until tomorrow. The shade was $99.00. We are planning to use it for shade. Looks like it will look great. Can't wait to try it out.</div>

Shade looks great, just don't forget to pack it up and roll it in before you drive off!

I haven't got a clue as to whats wrong with my link to Cabela's is ???? what do you mean????
I Think this should work as a shade, rain cover, and a lean-to for the side of the truck. Not much room under it, but alot more than we have now. I still haven't got to play with it, but the way it un-reels I really like. As far as wind goes, I think this will work OK, but maybe not as good as a fitted tarp (i.e. the one Al has) but it should unpack and repack faster. Also it will be easy for two people to set-up.
I'll keep you posted about how this works out. I mainly posted this incase anyone else saw this and planned to get one, if it's not going to work it may save other a few $$$
Jack, I think the added letters cost $50, so no I didn't get them. :-) I like that little flap to make a sign with. I could put some velcro on it and have a changable signs. ie, 'NO JEEPS', 'SHADE $50', or some things like that.
This is basicly part of catching up with (and passing) the Bajataco mods list, for the 'super exploring rig'. Opps I can't post this because he (Chris) didn't know there was a race and I want to catch-up before he finds out, so mumms the word. Ha Ha BTY, last few trips I looked in my mirrors, and found DaveL is sneeking up behind me on the mods. He has added a few sweet mods to his Taco and now I have a wage a 'war' on two fronts. Ha Ha
I was feeling good, till Chris added the Frig. that was a real broadside, and Dave's shot across my bow was a wake-up call. I still have a slight edge with the dust thing, but I can't sit on my past for long. Ha Ha

The shade thingy doesn't really have to be strong, it just has to look strong to scare the weather away. Remember how the rain stopped and the clouds vanished when we put up the tarp on the Mojave trip? http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/smilewinkgrin.gif </div>
It's kind of like talking/not talking about the guy W.</div>

http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/lol.gif Uh oh, I better get my butt in gear... Steve has a huge edge on me because he has that nice, big shop to do mods in. I have a slanted concrete driveway exposed to the elements... http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/shakehead.gif This is going to be tough.
NOW my curiosity is really going - what has Dave been up to? TELL US!
Oh yea, BTW, I already have the shade thingy (http://www.bajataco.com/rack-canopy.jpg), used it for the first time in Moab last year. But mine is proving to be too weak. I need to get some stronger hinges for it.

Competition is good.
Lets Rock people. We will have the Ultimate Tacoma prize to give a way.
Then Uwe and I can start on the 4Runner thing.

We got to test this mod also last weekend! With the proper arrangeement of cars and chairs we were able to protect 6 people from the noon sun.
A possible future mod for the shade could be a mister that sprays a mist of water. On a weekend trip it might be possible to carry the extra water needed without penalty....http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/smilewinkgrin.gif

No matter how much you deny,I see summer desert tendencies. Thinking about misters around the shadehttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/rolleyes.gif . </div>
But a good idea! Are we going to have to worry about water pressure?http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/joker1.gif </div>

Well, okay, with misters and fridges and camping in the wind at 5000ft (once again I was in the wind without a kite http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/banghead.gif )...
While we were carefully rationing our ice, Steve was pulling cold drinks from the fridge without worry. Unfortunately it was still his old/small one. With that new giant fridge there should be cool drinks for larger groups for the whole weekendhttp://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/emoticons/supercool.gif
