While doing some research for latest posting on the Ship Rock Trip, I was surprised to find that Google referred me to the 4WDTrips.net forum for information. Unfortunately, I had to considered the source and looked someplace else.

Jack, I think your forum has arrived.

Huh,

If it is in the new trips it will not get it because it needs a password. That is one of the reason that new trips are 'protected'.
Thanks for the note.

I hope this Forum / toll will be here for us for a long time. And that we will make it usefully more and more.
Got to run.

My experience with hitting the search engines on my own website is it takes about 3 months in the beginning. Have also found as a frequent poster at 3 or 4 message boards, that if I put in a search for my name or something I talk about a lot like Cerro Gordo - it will show up after a couple of months. So you are right, if you don't want someone to know about your secret spot be careful which section of a forum you post it on! Of course if it's Steve's Secret Utah Trip - that's so secret, I suppose it doesn't matter - I think that trip is stealth!http://www.rxtx.com/4wdtrips/forum/emoticons/jumpin.gif

And yes, it can be very frustrating trying to find out information about something and getting your own name or your friends names in that search! Doesn't anyone we don't know talk about places to go and their histories!

Well, we can not say that the search engines are not working. They are doing their job(s).
If you were the one looking for information and would not know this Forum or others, you would be Happy to find it.

thanks,

Also means we got to watch out what we post.

It's one reason I didn't put exact detailed positions on the maps for the Mojave trip. I discussed this with Steve on the trip. We don't want the places to get closed because the get too crowded/polular. Look at what happened to the Mojave phone booth...

Yep,

We can potentially put most of the Threads to be read only by register users. Maybe this is too much.
Just let me know.

There was this phone booth in the Mojave preserve in the middle of nowhere, it somehow got famous on the net, the number got on the net, people started to call it all the time, others went out there to see it, there may even have been vandalism, I forgot the details, but in the end the phone company just removed it (that's how I remember the story anyway....).

The "other" Mojave Phone (phone without a web site) may be gone also. Last time we went by where it's at (was), neither Anita or I remember seeing it, and it was easy to notice.

Not bad for something that I did not spend any time on.
