We went to see a cliff dwelling last weekend and it was incredible! This place was like a dream...

Nice.
I am assuming that these were man built, right?

I believe they were built and occupied by the Sinagua indians - dated at around 1280 AD

Way cool,
I am wondering how did they find and managed the rocks for doing the building.
Thanks,

Hey Chris, looking forward to the rest of the pics. http://www.rxtx.com/4wdtrips/forum/emoticons/cool.gif That style of structure looks a lot like what you find at Chaco Canyon. I work with a lot of archaeologists who specialize in SW culture, let me know of you want me to pass along any questions.

Thanks Chuck - will do. I agree that the style looks very similar.
Jack, it's pretty neat - there are beautiful pieces of this red stone, pre-cut by mother nature (in flat slabs) laying all over the hillsides surrounding this area. It is a really convenient building material. I should mention that two of the roofs are in great shape, with beautiful lattice work on top of main beams, on top of the lattice work is a thick mat of grass which is covered with adobe mud.

Great find! Are these located near Prescott? Bob and I will have to spend more time in the Prescott area.

As the crow flies - yes... as the 4wd crawls... no. About 3 hours with pit stops. Did you get to see Watson Lake on your way out of town?
BTW, I love your new signature!!
