My Winch Wench (aka Kyle, aka Rockcrawler) and I ran Charoulea Gap this weekend to investigate it as a possibility for inclusion as a ZafaRi2003 run in October. As far as I'm concerned, it made the "definite" list! It is an awesome trail!

The only problems we had were one slashed sidewall (mine http://www.rxtx.com/4wdtrips/forum/emoticons/cry.gif ) and a small group of quad riders who were jerks, idiots, and worst of all, LITTERERS!

Charouleau gap can be done as a day trip (we spent about 7 hours on the trail total, including changing my tire and getting stuck behind a Land Cruiser group for a short while (Those Toy boys!!! http://www.rxtx.com/4wdtrips/forum/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.rxtx.com/4wdtrips/forum/emoticons/lol.gif ) We did it as an overnight trip though. We camped at almost the half way point (mileage-wise) near a hiking trail. We got to camp early enough on Saturday that we were able to hike up Canada del Oro creek a ways and enjoy an absolutely phenomenal Arizona day! (Aren't they all???)

Here are the pics! (WARNING: I wanted to keep the quality high, so the large pics are about 350k each)

Wolf, the thumbnails look awesome. Unfortunately, it looks like they are link to filenames from your computer instead of your website, so I didn't see the big pics.

You don't have a pic of your camp by any chance do you?

The scenery looks fabulous... and the water looks DEEP!!

Ok, I have the links fixed. All of the large images should come up now.

I think I'm going to down-size the large pictures to 800X600 though. Might get around to it tonight . . .

Wolf,

Very nice.
I did not know you guys can still find water in AZ, ha ha ha

Regarding your tires, do you have insurance for the tires? (Discount Tires and Tires America) itcost jus 10 or 20 buck per tire. In a case like this you get a new tire, no questions asked.

Nope. No insurance for the tires unfortunately. I still have one spare because I did have six though. I am going to keep my eye out for a used 32' MT.

I'll second that.... it was an absolutely awesome trail. I can't wait to go back.... and with a few other trucks perhaps try 'the step.' Definitely on the must do list for ZafaRi2003.
